[en] Configure How the Sentence Too Long Guideline Appears for Users

[en] You can configure Acrolinx to display the number of words that a highlighted sentence contained so that users know how many words to remove. You can also configure an alternative name for the "sentence too long" guideline in the Acrolinx Scorecard.

[en] To configure an alternative name for the "sentence too long" guideline, follow these steps:

  1. [en] Open your overlay of the relevant language configuration file.

    [en] If you haven't yet created an overlay of this file, create a new version of the file at the following location:

    <config directory>/data/<LANG_ID>/configuration.properties

    [en] If this location doesn’t yet exist, create the required subdirectories first.

  2. [en] Locate the group of properties for your desired writing guide.

  3. [en] Add the following property:

    <RULE_SET>.lengthChecker.sentenceTooLongPhrase=<PHRASE>

    [en] You can use the variable $words to display the number of words in the highlighted sentence.

    [en] Example

    Standard.lengthChecker.sentenceTooLongPhrase=Sentence too long: Counted $words words

    Tipp

    [en] You can also define this property for all writing guides by entering the property without the writing guide prefix.

    lengthChecker.sentenceTooLongPhrase=Sentence too long: Counted $words words

  4. [en] (Optional) To configure an alternative name for the 'sentence too long' guideline, add the following property:

    <RULE_SET>.lengthChecker.sentenceTooLongRuleName=<RULE_NAME>

    StandardDE.lengthChecker.sentenceTooLongRuleName=Satz zu lang

    Tipp

    [en] You can also define this property for all writing guides by entering the property without the writing guide prefix.

  5. [en] Save your changes and reload the language configuration on the relevant language servers.

    [en] The new name appears in the Scorecard.
