What Acrolinx Checks

Things to Consider

Excel

  • Data in an entire sheet — this includes single or merged cells, comments, and tables

Outlook

  • Editable content when you draft an email, this includes:

    • Email body and subject line

    • Entire email threads, but any cards relating to the previous messages will be inactive.

Acrolinx doesn't check items like meetings, appointments, and tasks.

Important

Acrolinx isn't compatible with the new version of Outlook for Windows (released August 2024).

PowerPoint

  • Normal view - all content, can edit with the Sidebar

  • Outline view - all content, can' edit with the Sidebar

  • Slide view - all content, can't edit with the Sidebar

  • Notes view - all content, no highlighting, can't edit with the Sidebar

  • Reading view - all content, can't edit with the Sidebar

  • Master view - all content, can't edit with the Sidebar

Tip

When it comes to editing your content with the Sidebar, Acrolinx asks you to switch to Normal view. You might need to run the check again.

Sometimes, Acrolinx checks part of your content but can't highlight the issue or automatically insert suggestions. If you see a padlock  in the Sidebar card, you can edit the issue directly in the text.This might happen for issues in:

  • Grouped shapes

  • Comments

  • SmartArt

  • Charts - Note that Acrolinx doesn't check axis labels.

Acrolinx checks content in speaker notes. But Acrolinx can’t highlight issues in the speaker notes section. These cards are inactive by default. If you want Acrolinx to insert suggestions in speaker notes, you can update your Content Profile. Keep in mind that Acrolinx still won’t be able to highlight the issues in speaker notes.

Word

  • All content in the normal writing mode

    Tip

    Acrolinx can check content in protected documents, but can't make any changes.

Sometimes, Acrolinx checks part of your content but can't highlight issues or automatically insert suggestions. If you see a padlock  in a Sidebar card, you can edit the issue directly in the text.This might happen for issues in:

  • Headers and footers

  • Footnotes and endnotes

  • SmartArt graphics

  • Field codes in SmartArt graphics

  • Comments

If you use field codes for dynamic content, Acrolinx will highlight and replace the content. But as soon as you update a field, Word will overwrite the suggestion.

Acrolinx can't highlight and replace issues for field codes when the field codes are in certain elements, including:

  • Headers and footers

  • Comments
