This article answers frequently asked questions about migrating from an on-premise Core Platform to the Acrolinx Private Cloud.
What Do We Need to Start Migrating?
We need the data of your Core Platform. Sometimes these files can be quite large, so we ask you to use our Hightail file exchange service. If you can’t use Hightail for security reasons, you must provide us with an alternative method to get your files.
What Exact Files Do We Need?
Before Acrolinx Support can migrate your current Core Platform data to the hosted cloud solution, we generally need three important files:
- A support package from your Core Platform
Navigate to Dashboard> Maintenance> and then click 'Create Support Package'. Click the generated link to download the file and send it to Acrolinx Support. - A terminology backup from your Core Platform
Navigate to the Dashboard> Terminology> Import and Export> Database Backups> and then click "Create New Backup". Click the generated link to download the file and send it to Acrolinx Support. - (Optional) An analytics reporting backup from your Core Platform
Navigate to Dashboard> Analytics> Administration> Database backups> and then click 'Create new backup'. Click the generated link to download the file and send it to Acrolinx Support.
Some customers choose to “start fresh” when migrating to the cloud, or never configured analytics reporting in their on-premises versions of the Core Platform. This will be discussed during your cloud migration kickoff meeting.
What Are the Steps in the Migration?
Once we’ve configured your Acrolinx Private Cloud and received your data, we begin the migration. Each migration to the private cloud follows these steps:
- Migration of all guidance configuration and user data.
- Migration of all terminology.
- Migration of all report data, if applicable.
- Testing
- (Optional) Training
- (Optional) PingFederate configuration / testing
How Long Does Migration Take?
The complete migration can take anywhere between 2-4 weeks as determined, planned, and communicated by your Acrolinx Project manager.
What Do We Migrate?
- All custom settings
- All users
- Complete terminology
- All reporting data
The only difference between your current on-premises instance and your hosted Acrolinx Private Cloud instance is the URL. You use this URL to access the Core Platform. All other settings and data are available.
Will There Be a Smooth Migration from My On-Site Core Platform to the Acrolinx Private Cloud?
Acrolinx can coordinate with you to carry out the last migration steps over the weekend. This means that we’ll request an analytics backup as late as possible to minimize the loss of test data.
What Else Should I Know?
If you’re using a Core Platform that has configurations directly in the installation directory, we may need a zipped copy of your Acrolinx installation directory. Acrolinx will discuss this with you directly if it finds a problem.
