Didn’t find the right preset? Or want to fine-tune a certain guideline?
You can always create a custom preset for your particular content needs. You can start from an existing preset. The selection will switch to custom automatically.
You can only have one custom preset per goals and style guide.
To create a custom preset, follow these steps:
-
Click on a goal to expand it.
-
Select an existing preset from the dropdown below the goal name as a starting point.
-
Turn guidelines on or off, change a guideline, or enable or disable a guideline for a specific context.
-
Click SAVE
-
Optional: Or Save with a comment. View changes in the Recent Activities slide-out.
Warning
To edit a custom preset, select Custom from the dropdown. If you start editing an Acrolinx preset and save your changes, this will overwrite any existing custom presets that you have. You can only have one custom preset per goal and style guide, and you can’t retrieve past changes. Take care before saving your changes!
Let’s say you want Clarity set to Average but without the guideline “Shorten this sentence?”. In this case, you would turn that guideline off and the preset would automatically switch to Custom. If you later want to make other changes to your clarity guidelines, select Custom from the dropdown and go ahead with your changes. The guideline “Shorten this sentence?” will stay turned off.
To turn a guideline on or off, you only need to select or deselect the checkbox next to it. Then click SAVE at the bottom of the page. The changes will apply to your custom preset.
Changing the guidelines to meet your needs is easy. For example, here’s how to change the “Shorten this sentence?” guideline (which used to be called “sentence too long”). This guideline highlights sentences that have too many words and is a standard Acrolinx style guideline.
With Clarity in your style guide, follow these steps:
-
Go to Clarity > Expand Sentence Length.
-
Select Shorten this sentence? and adjust the parameter by typing or using the arrows in the textbox.
-
Click SAVE.
