The support for classic Reuse will end with the 2023.10 release. We've introduced a modernized Reuse feature with an improved UI and more checking capabilities. Learn more about it in our Reuse Quick Start.
You can group the sentences in your repository by structure and meaning. A cluster normally includes several sentences. However, a cluster can also have a single sentence if there are no other similar sentences in the repository.
You can set least one sentence in a cluster as the representative sentence. This gives writers the preferred wording when the sentence has a few variations.
To quickly add sentences to your repository, create your own clusters manually.
Here’s how to create a cluster with new sentences:
-
In the Acrolinx Dashboard, go to Reuse > Repository Overview.
-
Choose a repository and click the New Cluster button at the top of the cluster list. This will open the Edit Cluster page. The cluster will have the placeholder name "Missing Representative" until you add sentences to it.
-
Add sentences to the cluster.
-
Click Close.
-
Restart the relevant language server to make your changes available for checking. You can also make more changes before you restart the language server.
You can also create a new cluster out of an existing cluster. How? Simply split them into two smaller clusters. This is useful if a cluster is too big.
To create a new cluster from existing sentences, follow these steps:
-
Expand the cluster that includes the sentences that you want to add to the new cluster.
-
Select the sentences that you want to cluster.
-
Click Create as New Cluster.
-
This will open the Edit Cluster dialog. You can add more sentences to your cluster or set the representative sentence.
-
Click Close.
-
Restart the relevant language server to make your changes available for checking. You can also make more changes before you restart the language server.
Change sentence groupings or select new representative sentences. If you want to enable or disable checking, you can also change the status of individual clusters.
To add additional sentences to a cluster, write a new sentence or move an existing sentence from another cluster.
Tip
Before you search clusters, make sure that a language server is running for the search language. For example, to search Japanese clusters, a language server configured with Japanese should be running.
To add a new sentence to a cluster, follow these steps.
-
In the cluster list, expand the cluster that you want to edit and click the Edit Cluster button.
-
Add a sentence:
-
To add a new sentence:
-
Enter a new sentence in the Enter new sentence field. Click Add Sentence.
-
-
To move an existing sentence:
-
Enter a sentence or set of keywords and click Search Clusters.
-
Select the sentences that you want to add to the cluster and click Move Selected Sentences. This removes the selected sentences from the clusters in the Clusters with Similar Sentences section and adds them to the desired cluster.
-
-
-
Restart the relevant language server for your changes to take effect. You can also make more changes before you restart the language server.
If a sentence isn’t relevant to a cluster, you can always remove it. However, deleted sentences will stay in the repository. That way, Acrolinx doesn’t cluster them again. Deleted sentences live in a new cluster with the status Disabled.
Tip
If many clusters have irrelevant sentences, you might need to adjust your cluster settings and recreate the repository.
To remove sentences from a cluster, follow these steps:
-
Click the cluster name to see the sentences in the cluster.
-
Select the checkboxes next to the sentences that you want to remove.
-
Click Delete. After you click Delete, the sentences move to their own cluster. The cluster will have the status Disabled.
-
Restart the relevant language server for your changes to take effect. You can also make more changes before you restart the language server.
You can sort columns with bold headers in ascending or descending order. Sorting is especially useful if you want to validate large lists of clusters. For example, you can sort by match frequency to see which sentences Acrolinx finds most frequently.
You can also filter the cluster list based on certain cluster attributes, the cluster ID, or keywords within the clustered sentences.
To sort or filter your cluster list, follow these steps:
-
Click a column header.
-
Enter one or more keywords in the search field and click Search. Note: Acrolinx doesn’t recognize numerals in keyword searches. For example, the search "4 fan trays" returns all sentences that include "fan trays" but not "4 fan trays."
-
Enter a cluster ID in the search field and click Search.
-
In the Minimum Cluster Size field, enter the minimum number of sentences a cluster should have before you see it in the search results.
-
Select a filter checkbox to filter clusters by status.
-
The Proposed checkbox shows clusters that aren’t on or off.
-
The Enabled checkbox shows clusters that are on.
-
The Disabled checkbox shows clusters that are off.
-
Once you activate a cluster and restart the language server, Acrolinx will highlight sentences that are different from the representative sentence. They’ll appear as suggestions in the Acrolinx Sidebar when you run a check.
To change the cluster status:
-
Click the on button to enable the cluster, and click the off button to disable it.
-
Restart the relevant language server to make your changes available for checking. You can also make other changes before you restart the language server.
You can't delete a cluster. This is because adding new harvested sentences to your repository can recreate it. When you disable a cluster, it's not available for checking. Acrolinx never recreates disabled clusters.
