Acrolinx for FrameMaker - Version 1.2 SR1 (20 March 2018)
This release brings you check selection functionality! We've also made some changes to the Sidebar interface. So, you’ll find everything you need in the Sidebar itself.
The Sidebar is now your one-stop shop! We’ve improved the Sidebar, so that you don’t have to go anywhere else to enter your options or find more information. The Acrolinx menu now has the only option you’ll need, ‘Show Sidebar’. All the rest, like options, help, and log file access, are now available from the Sidebar.
Acrolinx Now Reads Proprietary FrameMaker Formats
Good news! You can now improve the content of structured and unstructured FrameMaker Documents with the Sidebar.
Sidebar Scales to Work on Different Monitor Settings
The Sidebar appeared really small on some screens. We care about your eyes! So, we've improved the Sidebar to look good in Ultra High Definition (UHD) or on a lower definition display set to a higher screen resolution.
New Content Profile for FrameMaker
To make checking in Acrolinx for FrameMaker a breeze, starting with Guidance Package 5.4, you get a new Content Profile included for FrameMaker. You can also update your earlier Guidance Package to get this new Content Profile.
Check a Selection of Your Document
Ever felt like one particular part of your content needs more attention? With check selection, you can now select parts of your document for Acrolinx to check. We know some of you waited for this, so update to the Sidebar edition and wait no more!
Embed Check Data
Embed Check Data gets promoted to FrameMaker with this release! If your administrator enables Embed Check Data on your Acrolinx Server , Acrolinx saves the Acrolinx Score, time stamp, and link to the Scorecard for all your checked content. Just another way to keep track of your content quality at a glance!
Example of check data for XML documents:
<?FM MARKER [Comment] acrolinxCheckData timeStarted="2018-02-25T12:20:01Z" score="100" status="green" scorecardUrl = "http://localhost:8031/output/en/faxSample_xml_admin_e9e97a25480c471d_27_report.html"?>
Acrolinx Now Checks Alternative Text for Images
Still, hesitating to switch to the Sidebar? We have another good reason to update. With the FrameMaker classic edition, you can’t check alternative text for images. But the new Sidebar reads any attribute information. If Acrolinx finds issues in texts associated with any anchored frames, you'll get an inactive Sidebar card. To edit, open the Object Attributes window.
Acrolinx Caused Background Color of Text to Change
Sometimes Acrolinx classic edition got creative and colored parts of your text. This can happen because Acrolinx classic uses conditional text to highlight issues in different colors. If you use colors to show conditional text in your documents, Acrolinx would sometimes conflict with this feature. This could result in full sentences highlighted in the color you’ve defined for conditional text. We know that Acrolinx isn’t Picasso. The Sidebar doesn't use conditional text so this won’t happen to you if you upgrade.
We've developed and tested this version of Acrolinx with FrameMaker 2015 and 2017.
Acrolinx for FrameMaker requires the following Acrolinx products:
- Acrolinx 5.3.1 or later
- Acrolinx Guidance Package 5.3 or later
Adobe FrameMaker Version 1.1 (19 May 2017)
We're happy to release this new Sidebar version of Acrolinx for FrameMaker. With this release, we tidied up the dialogs and functionality for consistency and a better usability.
Added Support for Adobe FrameMaker 2015
You can now use Acrolinx for FrameMaker with versions 2015 and 2017.
Install Classic and Sidebar Editions for 2015 in Parallel
If you’re currently using the Acrolinx classic edition with FrameMaker 2015, you can install the new Sidebar edition in parallel. Note that you’ll get slightly different checking results and Acrolinx Scores when comparing results from classic and sidebar editions. That's because Acrolinx Sidebar edition reads your content differently.
Acrolinx Interface Appears in Your Preferred Language
The Acrolinx Sidebar interface now matches in the language of your FrameMaker installation if you use English, German, French, or Japanese.
Acrolinx Now Validates the Server Address to Ensure a Successful Connection
The server address field now validates the address that you enter. You also get feedback if the connection was successful or failed, for example if the server isn’t running.
Specify the Address of an Acrolinx Server with an MSI Installer Property
If your administrator uses the MSI installer properties to automate the installation of Acrolinx, they can also now specify the address of an Acrolinx server. So, writers don't have to enter this information themselves. To set that Acrolinx server address, use the property ACROLINX_SERVER_ADDRESS .
Updated Acrolinx Windows for Consistency Across Integrations
We've tidied up the dialogs and functionality for consistency across other sidebar edition integrations. Some features are just little updates, but others include validation of the server address that you enter in the Options window.
Acrolinx for FrameMaker Overwrites the Existing .dll In FrameMaker Installations
To display some Acrolinx images in FrameMaker, we had to modify the FrameMaker DLL. So, when you install or update Acrolinx, the installer modifies the fmcustom.dll and owlres.dll to include Acrolinx icon images. Because we've modified the DLL, any customizations that you've made will be overwritten when you install Acrolinx. And if you uninstall Acrolinx, then the DLLs won't be removed. When FrameMaker updates these DLLs the Acrolinx icon images will disappear in the sidebar and toolbar.
Inactive Sidebar Cards for Variables
Acrolinx can read content from variables in your documents. However, by design, variables are read-only because the information is preset and often populated during printing. If the issue cards appear for variables, the cards don't get the "read-only" padlock icon. Instead, if you click on a card the card becomes inactive.
Acrolinx for Adobe FrameMaker - Version 1.0 (31 January 2017)
The new sidebar edition of Acrolinx for FrameMaker gives you a new way of checking and correcting your content. To learn about the differences between the two editions, see the article in this help center.
Support for XML Documents
You can use FrameMaker to work with XML, DITA, structured, or unstructured documents. This sidebar edition supports XML and DITA documents only. DITA map checking is not yet supported. If you use the structured or unstructured FrameMaker formats, you'll need to continue using the classic edition.
Manage Extraction Settings on the Server
If you're used to the Acrolinx classic edition, you'll have configured your extraction settings directly in the plug-in. For all sidebar edition plug-ins, you configure the extraction settings in the Acrolinx Server . Your guidance package includes default Context Segmentation Definition (CSD) and context definition files for XML documents, but you'll need to customize them to work with your DTDs. If you'd like help converting your classic edition extraction settings to work for the sidebar edition, contact Acrolinx Support. They'll be more than happy to help.
You'll need to request a new license to get the sidebar edition activated for your server.
