|All Acrolinx plug-ins||All versions|
|Microsoft Windows||All versions|
Windows prevents you from installing or uninstalling an Acrolinx Plug-in. You might receive a message that is similar to the following message:
Before installing this Plug-in, close the following Microsoft Office applications and any other applications where an Acrolinx Plug-in is installed
There are several possible causes to this problem:
- An application with an installed Acrolinx Plug-in is still running.
- The corresponding software the plug-in is installed for has already been removed.
Resolving the Problem
Depending on the cause of the problem there are different solutions:
- Close all applications that could possibly have an Acrolinx Plug-in installed. These
applications are for example Microsoft Word (also Microsoft Outlook),
XMetaL, Arbortext Editor, or Adobe FrameMaker.If you use the Desktop Checker, stop it by selecting Exit from the Acrolinx menu. You can open the Acrolinx menu by right-clicking the Acrolinx icon in the notification area (system tray).Tip: Sometimes the Desktop Checker might not stop straight away. To ensure that the Desktop Checker has stopped correctly, open the Windows Task Manager. On the Processes tab, look for a process called "Acrotray.exe". If you find this process, end it.
- Make sure the corresponding version of the software is still on your computer if you are trying to remove an older version of the Acrolinx Plug-in. For example, if you are removing the Acrolinx Plug-in for XMetaL 4.5, make sure XMetaL 4.5 is still installed.
